APA Division 47 Dissertation Award

Division 47 of the American Psychological Association invites the submission of applications for the annual Dissertation Award. This award recognizes outstanding student research that has the greatest potential for making a significant contribution to the theoretical and applied knowledge base in exercise and sport psychology. Application requirements are as follows: 1) a 1500 word abstract which includes (a) Introduction, b) Review of Literature, c) Methodology/Statistics, d) Discussion, e) Contribution to Science and Practice; References should also be included but will not be counted toward the 1500-word limit.2) the student applicant and/or his or her dissertation advisor must be a member of Division 47 at the time of application; 3) a letter of support from the applicant’s advisor confirming the completion of the dissertation and the degree by December 31, 2006, and expressing support for the research in question; and 4) applications must be postmarked by February 15, 2007. Abstracts will be judged by a panel of professionals in exercise and sport psychology who are members of Division 47. The awardee(s) will be notified of their selection by March 13, 2007, so they can make plans to attend the 2007 APA Convention in San Francisco, CA August 17-20 to receive the award, which includes a plaque and a monetary gift, and present their research. Division 47 Awards for Distinguished Work in Sport and Exercise Psychology (Distinguished Professional Award)

The Div. 47 Executive Committee recently established four awards to recognize distinguished contributions in the field of sport and exercise psychology: 

  1. Distinguished Contributions to Science and Research in Sport and Exercise Psychology (given in the year 2007 and 2011) 
  2. Bruce Ogilvie Award for Professional Practice (given in the year 2008 and 2012) 
  3. Distinguished Contributions to Education and Training in Sport and Exercise Psychology (given in the year 2009 and 2013) 
  4. Distinguished Contributions to Sport and Exercise Psychology in the Public Interest (given in the year 2006 and 2010) 

One award will be given each year on a rotating basis, beginning with the Science and Research Award which will be given in 1999. Nominees for the award must be a member of Division 47 prior to their nomination.  For more information about the awards and how to apply, please contact Dr. Kate Hays for details.

2007 Student Travel Award Competition

 

The APA Science Directorate is pleased to announce the 2007 Student Travel Award competition. The purpose of the Travel Award program is to help psychology graduate students travel to the APA Convention to present their research. In 2006, approximately 100 students will receive this $300 award to help support their travel to the APA Convention in San Francisco. In addition, applicants who are both members of the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS) and first authors on their papers are eligible to have their Convention registration fees waived.
