The University of North Texas Sleep and Health Research Lab
(UNT-SHRL) was created by Daniel Taylor, Ph.D., ABSM, when he was hired at UNT
in 2004.
The clinical training arm of the UNT-SHRL is the
Behavioral Sleep Medicine Training Program,
which is housed within the Clinical Health Psychology/Behavioral Medicine
Doctoral program at UNT. In 2007, the Behavioral Sleep Medicine Program became
the first ever doctoral program accredited in this specialty by the American
Board of Sleep Medicine.
The UNT-SHRL research
focuses on the assessment and treatment of sleep disorders with behavioral
components (e.g., insomnia, childhood sleeping disorders, coping with apnea).
Our epidemiological research focuses determining which sleep
disorders serve as risk factors for increased health problems (psychological and
medical), and reduced performance (e.g., academic, work, social).
Our intervention research focuses on randomized clinical
trials of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in the treatment of primary and secondary
insomnia.
The UNT-SHRL
currently has 7 doctoral and 5 undergraduate research assistants focusing on a
variety of research topics. For more information about different students
research interests and ongoing projects, please proceed to the link for the
Research Team.
