A total of 35 hours are required for the B.A. and the B.S., including 16 hours of required core courses.
Core Psychology Course
EveryPsychology major will need to take the following:
PSYC 1630 General Psychology I
3 hours
PSYC 1650 General Psychology II
3 hours
(This course is waived if you have taken General or Introduction to Psychology at another school. You must substitute a Psychology elective for this course in order to make up the 3 hours of credit. 1630 and 1650 can be taken in any order or at the same time.)
PSYC 2317 Quantitative Methods
4 hours
(prerequisite is College Algebra) This course must be passed with a C or
better before student can become Psychology Major.
PSYC 2950 Experimental Methods in Psychology
4 hours (lecture & lab)
(prerequisite is Quantitative Methods) This course must be passed with a C
or better before student can become Psychology Major.
PSYC 4600 History and Systems of Psychology
3 hours
(recommend taking after completing 12 hours of other Psychology courses)
There are two degree options which must be declared upon doing your degree plan. Please speak with an advisor to decide which option is right for you.:
1. Bachelor of Arts
In addition to the core, complete 18 hours psychology electives from the remaining courses.
2. Bachelor of Science
In addition to the core, complete the following required courses:
PSYC 3630 Introduction to Psychological Measurement
3 hours
PSYC 4950 Honors Thesis
3 hours
(This is not a course, it is a research project conducted by the student with a faculty supervisor. Please see the psychology advisors for more information.)
12 additional elective hours are to be selected with your advisor from the remaining psychology courses
Other requirements for the B.S. include a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (including transfer work) and a minimum psychology GPA of 3.5 (including transfer work) in order to graduate.

You must complete a total of 128 credit hours to graduate. The core and major requirements do not sum to 128, therefore you can either choose a Minor (optional) and/or take any elective courses so that your hours total 128.
Of the 128 hours, 42 of those hours must be advanced (3000-4000 level)
Please complete a degree plan around the end of your sophomore year. Bring copies of all your transcripts to the Psychology Department advisors to begin the degree plan process.
