In class we have describe psychology a “non-unified” discipline. That is, there is diversity among systematic views of psychology. However, psychology is not diverse from another perspective. The history of psychology has been dominated by contributions of white males.
Even though the lack of ethnic and gender diversity among
the “founders” is probably not unique to the science of psychology, the lack of
diversity has changed the science. Your
assignment for this paper is to identify individuals whose ethnic, religious,
gender, or cultural identity hampered their impact on the discipline of
psychology. You will identify three
individual that fit the profile. For
each, you will tell what role the individual played in the history of
psychology, what the person’s concept of psychology was, and how that persons
contribution would have changed psychological thinking at the time had the
person been more influential.
