I am an Assistant Professor
in the Department of Psychology at UNT, running the laboratory in Cognitive
Neuroscience here. We have just obtained a 32 channel ERP recording system,
and soon we will be investigating cortical activity underlying symmetry
detection, expression recognition and other aspects of visual perception.
My research interests are varied. I have examined different visual illusions,
spent a lot of time trying to understand the perception of structure in the
world (focusing on bilateral symmetry detection), and I am interested in
the timing and locus of different perceptuo-cognitive processes. My interests
lie mostly in the domain of visual perception, but that's pretty loosely defined.
I have a longstanding interest in how we perceive colour and objects, and
I will pursue research in these areas at some point.
I graduated with a degree in Biology from McGill University in Montreal,
then after a brief hiatus I completed an MA and PhD at the University of
Western Ontario in Psychology. I worked with Keith Humphrey on a variety
of projects over my graduate career. I had two postDoctoral positions before
coming to UNT. First, I spent two years working with Daphne McCulloch and
Eric Brodie at Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland. Then I worked with
Jocelyn Faubert at the University of Montreal. I certainly brushed up on
my French skills lecturing there!!
