At face value, we are interested in both perception and recognition. However, if you look deeper,
our studies have focused specifically on recognition of facial expressions. We have studied the
salience of expression recognition in adults. These studies included looking into gender effects
such as, how the gender of the person expressing the emotion and interrupting it interacts. We are
beginning to embark onto developmental aspects of recognizing expressions. These studies are to involve
special populations of children. They will give us insight into how learning and social interaction
early in life affects the ability to interrupt expressions.
